How This Works
This tool uses the U.S. Navy body fat estimation method, which calculates body fat percentage from basic circumference measurements. It's the same formula used by the Department of Defense for fitness assessments.
Accuracy: The Navy method is typically within 3-5% of a DEXA scan. For a more precise measurement, we recommend getting a DEXA scan at a local imaging center ($40-$150).
How to measure: Use a flexible tape measure. Measure your neck just below the larynx (Adam's apple). Measure your waist at the navel level, standing relaxed (don't suck in). Women should also measure hips at the widest point.
